
On the 3rd of November, 1957, the Soviet Union launch the first “manned” aircraft. Sputnik II’s sole passenger was Laika, a dog who had the honor of becoming the first living creature to enter space. Despite Soviet statements claiming she lived for several days, it was released in 2002 that Laika died a few hours after launch.
